Draw and share pool shots on your iPhone, iPod or iPad
I love the app… will you be taking suggestions for future features? Here are a couple:
1. In addition to “randomize,” I’d like to be able to set up a 9-ball, 8-ball, or 10-ball rack. Even better, the ability to set the balls up any way I want (including a rack), and save it to be able to “reset” the table later.
2. curved paths, to better represent the path of the ball.
3. ability to draw lines with arrows at the end instead of ghost balls.
I love this application — been waiting for something like this to come along for a long time. Great job!
… a couple more:
4. Ability to share a table layout with other DrawShot users.
5. Restore a table to original (ability to manually save instead of it being automatic)
6. Download table layouts that others have created and uploaded to an online gallery.
I don’t want much, do I? 🙂
Hello again,
Having import/export functionality is on my todo list as well. Once that ability is there, having an in-app gallery would be a great next step.
I’d be interested in hearing more about the manual save feature that you proposed. What is the problem that it would solve? Or in other words, what is annoying about the way it auto saves currently?
Thanks again for your support and suggestions!
Hey Larry.
Currently, if you make a bunch of changes, but then decide to discard them, there is no way to revert to the way it was before. You had some example diagrams when I installed, and I modified one of them before realizing I wanted to keep the original layout. There was no way to “undo” my changes.
By allowing a manual save and possibly an undo feature, it would fix this problem. Of course, undo means you have to track all changes, and I know that can add to the complexity.
Either way… great product. I’m loving the ability to create diagrams for my blog. 🙂
Hi Michael,
Not sure if you already noticed, but there are undo/redo buttons that are available while you’re drawing. The undo buffer doesn’t get saved when you exit though, so if you leave the drawing and come back then undo is grayed out and you’re stuck with starting from whereever you left off.
It’s not ideal for every case, but I was trying to err on the side of not losing your progress instead of optimizing for the case where you exit too quickly. I’ll keep this in mind and hopefully can come up with a solution that is the best of both worlds.
Thanks again for your feedback and support. Btw, I’ve been reading your blog posts. They seem to be very well received on reddit. Keep em coming!
Hi Michael,
Thanks for the support, I’m glad you like the app!
For #1 I can add a clone button fairly easily. It can be either in the settings or the pool table view, but the idea would be that you’d find a saved drawing with some drill and clone it to make a new drawing that can be edited independently. I can also look into adding 8/9/10 to the randomize menu.
The curved lines in #2 are a bit more complicated. Mainly concerning the user interface of how to select the line and how to move the curve around. I don’t think it will make it into the next update, but I agree that it would be nice to have.
Drawing arrows on the line ends instead of ghost balls is on my todo list. I’m thinking maybe a long press on the ghost ball would bring up a floating menu that would let you select from a few different options.
